I pray you are enjoying a lovely summer. I’m writing in between the chaotic wonders of Vacation Bible School and the upcoming youth trip to Seattle.

It is such a joy to be a youth pastor for life! As I mentioned in a recent sermon, we have no idea what growth God will give to the seeds we scatter among crowds of kids with varying levels of attention span and interest in what we have to say. God indeed gives the growth. His Word, like rain, falls to the ground and accomplishes His good purposes.

Not long after Seattle, our Bethesda family camp will occur at Sutton Campground on the coast. It’s awesome to see how this has regrown after COVID, as new youngsters and families fill the camping loop. It’s easy in the church world to get caught up in official events and programs. Even though family camp is technically a program, the gift of family camp is simply the downtime spent together.
Friendships are struck or grow deeper as the people of God simply hang out.

Such friendships are part of the intention behind launching Harbor groups last winter. Growth in Christ and growth together in spiritual friendship go hand in hand. I’m grateful to be at a church where this can happen across every generation. Summer musings on the personal front include preparing for our oldest to enter high school and our youngest to enter kindergarten! On a heavier
note, I turn 46 in August, which was the age my dad lost his life and that has me in my feelings.

Each of us at Bethesda are crossing thresholds, milestones, or reflecting on the passing of time. I’m grateful to share this life with you. God bless and see you soon.

Shalom, Pastor Tom
