Fair Trade

Fair Trade reflects our faith. By purchasing fairly-traded coffee and chocolate, Bethesda improves the lives of farmers, families, and communities around the world. Benefits to farming communities include access to clean water, health clinics, and schools. Fair Trade also helps stop child labor, human trafficking, and slavery in the cocoa farming industry.

Fellowship around a good pot of coffee is very Lutheran. Bethesda serves Fair Trade coffee and tea at our Sunday morning fellowship hour and whenever we gather and serve coffee.

At Bethesda, our members really enjoy Fair Trade coffee:

  • Larry and Sue choose Congo whole bean because they enjoy a strong cup of coffee. “It has a good flavor and it smells so good when we grind the beans.”
  • French Vanilla is Carol’s favorite. “It tastes great and has a nice, pleasant aroma.” She likes to combine it with a bite or two of Fair Trade chocolate.
  • In addition to these coffees, other favorites include Midnight Sun, Breakfast Blend, and Organic Decaf. We also carry baking cocoa and hot chocolate, along with many varieties of teas like Earl Grey, Irish Breakfast, Green Tea with Ginger, and Peppermint.

Bethesda has earned a spot in the top 5% of over 5000 Lutheran Churches that purchase Fair Trade products from Equal Exchange. In addition to our fellowship time, we sell coffee, tea, chocolate, and other products to members.
